Northern Map Turtle


Located less than five minutes from the Ecomuseum zoo, Lake of Two Mountains is home to one of two main populations of the Northern Map Turtle (Graptemys geographica) in Québec.  In an environment as strongly disrupted by human activity as the Montreal region, the survival of this population faces numerous threats.  In 2009 the Ecomuseum zoo and its partners launched a major study of the species aimed at protecting the population of Northern Map Turtles in the Lake of Two Mountains. Spiny Softshell Turtle


Lake Champlain is home to the last population in Quebec of the threatened Spiny Softshell Turtles (Apalone spinifera). The Ecomuseum zoo has been involved in the conservation of this species since 1997 when an intervention action plan for the species was put in place. Read more.

Western Chorus Frog


While the Chorus Frog Western (Pseudacris triseriata) was common and widespread in the 1950s, its habitat has suffered heavy losses in recent decades. The situation is such that we fear the loss of more than half of its remaining breeding ponds if nothing is done within the next few years. Read more.
